The client \u2013 VN Green Holding Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of Vietnamese asset manager <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dragoncapital.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dragon Capital Group<\/a> \u2013 seeks to explore the feasibility to install behind-the-meter BESS at up to three projects to mitigate the effects of curtailment. This is currently prevalent in Vietnam due to network congestion as a result of the country\u2019s successful implementation of a feed-in-tariff mechanism and the large number of renewables projects now online.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"622\" src=\"https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Utility-Solar-Picture-3-1024x622.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23991\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Utility-Solar-Picture-3-1024x622.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Utility-Solar-Picture-3-300x182.jpg 300w, https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Utility-Solar-Picture-3-768x467.jpg 768w, https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Utility-Solar-Picture-3-1536x934.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Utility-Solar-Picture-3.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Richard-Abrams.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21748\" width=\"180\" height=\"263\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cS<em>olar power makes up a rapidly increasing percentage of Vietnam\u2019s overall energy mix, having grown from virtually no PV generation in 2018 to more than 5GW. With such a rapid growth trajectory, BESS will be a critical technology to recover lost generation, whilst maximising the efficiency of these critical infrastructure projects. This will also potentially provide more sophisticated services to the local grid.\u201d<\/em><\/p><cite>Richard Abrams, ABL\u2019s Group\u2019s director of onshore renewables.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The technology, when integrated into renewable energy plants such as solar, can stabilise the high variability of a renewable asset (\u2018ramp rate control\u2019) or time-shift energy from the day to the evening demand peak. It can also support with balancing supply and demand on the network, defer network upgrades to allow for a higher utilisation of the existing grid infrastructure, or potentially offer frequency, voltage control or other \u2018ancillary\u2019 services. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ABL\u2019s scope of work included a detailed analysis of PV production data to assess curtailment, followed by detailed modelling and optimisation of various BESS solutions. Modelling was carried out on a lowest levelised cost basis to assess the commercial feasibility of adding BESS to PV and the optimal specification of any solution.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cWe are pleased to support Dragon Capital in the development and optimisation of BESS for its PV projects in Vietnam.
