On a day-to-day level my work ranges from wind turbine <a href=\"https:\/\/owcltd.com\/technical-due-diligence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">technical due diligence<\/a>, through <a href=\"https:\/\/owcltd.com\/operation-maintenance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">offshore wind O&amp;M <\/a>strategy development, wind farm concept design, floating wind turbine modelling &amp; applied research. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Offshore wind turbines contain nearly every \u201cflavour\u201d of engineering and I enjoy working on a broad technical scope that includes hydrodynamics, structural dynamics, aerodynamics, control &amp; power engineering. I have been involved in standards development and design method development since the early days of offshore wind and have enjoyed seeing the growth of the industry\u2019s experience base. Of course, not every day is full of interesting technical challenges \u2013 I have my share of proposal writing and admin too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What excites you the most about our industry?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a young engineer \u2013 when the UK had only two offshore turbines \u2013 my then boss Andrew Garrad said to me, \u201cDon\u2019t worry \u2013 one day offshore wind will have its day.\u201d It has been very exciting to see that day come, and indeed to see the prospect of many bright days ahead for the offshore wind industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fall in the cost of offshore wind has been tremendous and it has been exciting to be a part of the resulting growth in capacity. While once labelled as \u201calternative energy\u201d, wind energy is now part of the core generating capacity in the UK and many other countries. I am also very excited to be working in an industry which will be an important part of the solution to the environmental challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What made you join OWC?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OWC has a great team of enthusiastic experts, covering all technical areas related to offshore \u2013 and now onshore \u2013 wind. It is a an excellent team to work with. I was formerly with <a href=\"https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">London Offshore Consultants <\/a>prior to the creation of <a href=\"https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ABL Group<\/a>. The merger was a great opportunity for me to step into OWC and to increase my experience of wind farm commercial transactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What do you do when you are not working?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like many engineers who are desk-based during the week, I love opportunities to do \u201creal\u201d engineering at the weekends. I\u2019m currently fitting a new kitchen and building a workshop.
