Fortunately, this decision has also led me to meet some incredibly kind and supportive colleagues; one of the key reasons I remain committed to this industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-can-you-share-with-us-something-exciting-you-are-currently-working-on\">Can you share with us something exciting you are currently working on?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:52% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/niall-cunningham-work-pic.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-124503 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/niall-cunningham-work-pic.jpg 800w, https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/niall-cunningham-work-pic-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/niall-cunningham-work-pic-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>I&#8217;ve recently returned from a month-long trip to complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/loss-prevention\/marine-warranty-survey\/\">marine warranty survey<\/a> or scope of work for the installation of one of the largest offshore wind farms in the North Sea. Arriving on site with only the foundations in place and leaving with fully erected turbines was a remarkable sight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Witnessing large-scale transformations in just a matter of days was incredibly rewarding. Knowing these turbines will likely operate for over 35 years, quietly generating clean energy, brought great satisfaction.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-looking-ahead-what-do-you-think-is-key-to-driving-sustainability-in-your-industry\">Looking ahead, what do you think is key to driving sustainability in your industry?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To me, a key element of our industry that isn&#8217;t receiving the attention it deserves is minimising reliance on global transport chains. This not only reduces environmental impact but also reinforces the importance of strengthening local requirements and developing the necessary skills within each country. Achieving this will require targeted incentives and government support to build capacity and resilience across a broader range of regions, helping to create a more balanced and sustainable global supply chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-besides-work-what-do-you-enjoy-most-working-within-the-abl-group\">Besides work, what do you enjoy most working within the ABL Group?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are endless social events of all kinds, so there is something for everyone.\u00a0 I find they are a great way to unwind after work, especially when they take place in our kitchen &#8211; not much travel time! It\u2019s a brilliant space, and I\u2019d like to think we make the most of it here at ABL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-bonus-question-from-your-perspective-what-are-the-biggest-pitfalls-in-o-amp-m-that-developers-and-operators-need-to-watch-out-for-to-keep-projects-commercially-viable-over-their-lifespan\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-limegreen-color\">Bonus Question: <\/mark><\/strong>From your perspective, what are the biggest pitfalls in O&amp;M that developers and operators need to watch out for to keep projects commercially viable over their lifespan?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 37%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Having worked in early-stage offshore wind, I\u2019ve found that O&amp;M often doesn&#8217;t receive the attention it requires. One of the biggest pitfalls is underestimating long-term costs and logistical complexity during the early phases of a project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Developers tend to focus heavily on CAPEX and often overlook the root causes that accelerate equipment wear and significantly impact O&amp;M costs.
