{"id":11029,"date":"2021-02-04T10:34:19","date_gmt":"2021-02-04T10:34:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/loc-group.com\/?p=11029"},"modified":"2022-06-07T11:23:32","modified_gmt":"2022-06-07T10:23:32","slug":"innosea-appointed-on-major-european-rd-project-for-floating-solar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/all-media\/news\/innosea-appointed-on-major-european-rd-project-for-floating-solar\/","title":{"rendered":"INNOSEA appointed on Major European R&#038;D Project for Floating Solar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/innosea.co.uk\/\">INNOSEA<\/a>, a leading engineering consultancy firm specialising in Marine Renewables, is pleased to announce its appointment to join the European Research and Development project for <a href=\"https:\/\/cordis.europa.eu\/project\/id\/965671\">Bringing Offshore Ocean Sun to the Global Market (\u201cBOOST\u201d)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The 4m\u20ac BOOST project, funded and led by the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/index_en\">European Commission<\/a>, aims to design and deliver solutions to build a full-scale 0,25MWp <a href=\"https:\/\/loc-group.com\/renewable-technology\/floating-pvs\/\">Floating Solar Photovoltaic (\u201cFPV\u201d)<\/a> in Europe\u2019s sunniest area, the Canary Islands. The offshore test location offers unique environmental challenges to the engineering, with waves of up to 10m and high winds. The contract runs for a duration of approximately 30 months, with work having already officially commenced in January 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The project, as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/programmes\/horizon2020\/en\">Horizon 2020 programme<\/a>, is being developed by a consortium of partners including: <a href=\"https:\/\/fredolsenrenewables.com\/\">Fred Olsen Renewables AS<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/oceansun.no\/\">Ocean Sun AS<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plocan.eu\/en\/\">PLOCAN<\/a>; and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itccanarias.org\/web\/en\/\">The Institute of Technology of the Canary Islands (ITC)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This appointment follows INNOSEA\u2019s other recent appointment to a multi-national R&amp;D project funded by the European Commission, following their appointment to the<a href=\"https:\/\/loc-group.com\/news\/trust-pv-rd-project-win-for-floating-solar\/\"> TRUST-PV R&amp;D project<\/a> in Q2 2020. Overall, Innosea will be investing over 100 person months in floating solar R&amp;D to stay at the edge of this emerging sector.<\/p>\n<p>INNOSEA specialises in engineering advisory, feasibility, verification, and consultancy services for <a href=\"https:\/\/loc-group.com\/renewable-services\/\">marine renewable energies<\/a>. With offices in Nantes, France and Edinburgh, UK, it is part of <a href=\"https:\/\/aqualisbraemar.com\/\">AqualisBraemar<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/loc-group.com\/\">LOC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benoit Briere, INNOSEA Project Manager for BOOST, commented:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe team at INNOSEA is delighted to have been appointed to join the BOOST project, an innovative programme that aims to deliver offshore floating solar technology to the Canary Islands. Being appointed to a 2<sup>nd<\/sup> H2020 grant is a testament to the work INNOSEA has been doing in the floating solar PVs market. Europe\u2019s solar PV plants are currently the smallest in the world in terms of their average size, due to challenges in finding the required land space.
