{"id":10142,"date":"2020-09-15T09:31:40","date_gmt":"2020-09-15T09:31:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/loc-group.com\/?p=10142"},"modified":"2020-09-15T09:31:40","modified_gmt":"2020-09-15T09:31:40","slug":"installation-engineering-and-metocean-support-for-st-nazaire-owf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/all-media\/news\/installation-engineering-and-metocean-support-for-st-nazaire-owf\/","title":{"rendered":"Installation Engineering and Metocean Support for St Nazaire OWF"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.longitude-engineering.com\/\">Longitude<\/a>, the engineering and design branch of <a href=\"https:\/\/loc-group.com\/\">LOC Group<\/a>, is pleased to announce that it has completed a range of <a href=\"https:\/\/loc-group.com\/renewable-service\/metocean-environmental-studies\/\">environmental engineering analyses<\/a>, crucial to supporting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longitude-engineering.com\/services\/marine-operations-engineering\/cable-installation\/\">planning for upcoming export cable installation operations<\/a> for the St Nazaire Offshore Wind Farm (OWF), in France. The contract was provided by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prysmiangroup.com\/en\">Prysmian Group<\/a>, the world leader in energy and telecom cable systems, based in Milan, Italy.<\/p>\n<p>Under the agreement, the scope of work included analysis of vessel grounding and mooring in nearshore locations, landfall cable pull-in analysis, to ensure cable integrity, export cable free lay from the nearshore to the OWF, survival analysis for vessel operations in bad weather and seabed evaluation to ensure the cable remains stable prior to being buried.<\/p>\n<p>Key to winning the contract was LOC\u2019s unique position in being able to provide a multidisciplinary solution and team that included <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longitude-engineering.com\/services\/marine-design-upgrade-conversion\/geotechnical-design\/\">Geotech<\/a> as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longitude-engineering.com\/services\/site-investigations\/metocean-analysis\/\">Metocean support<\/a>. Longitude\u2019s work in metocean engineering provided an understanding of tide, current and waves at the shore approach location, including generating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longitude-engineering.com\/services\/advanced-analysis-simulation\/multibody-hydrodynamics\/\">3D hydrodynamic modelling<\/a>. This was critical to Prysmian\u2019s ability to plan operations, given strong and changing tidal currents, due to the location of the OWF, close to a river estuary.<\/p>\n<p>The wider <a href=\"https:\/\/loc-group.com\/renewable-services\/\">LOC Renewables<\/a> team has also contributed at other stages of the St Nazaire OWF project under other contracts, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/loc-group.com\/renewable-service\/geoscience\/\">geotechnical analysis<\/a> of leg penetration and soil stiffness.<\/p>\n<p>The St Nazaire OWF is in the Loire-Atlantique region of France. It is owned by Eolien Maritime France (EMF), a joint venture formed in May 2016 between EDF Renewables (50%) and its subsidiary Enbridge (50%). Once operational in 2022, the \u20ac2bn project will supply approximately 20% of the domestic electricity consumption of the Loire-Atlantique region.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.longitude-engineering.com\/our-people\/andrew-butler\/\">Andrew Butler<\/a>, Managing Director of Longitude, added:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c<\/em><em>Delivering the scope of work under this agreement demonstrates the breadth of services we can offer across a project\u2019s lifecycle, and the value our multidisciplinary approach adds to clients\u2019 projects. An example of this is the provision of cable stability analysis and work on the landfall <a href=\"https:\/\/loc-group.com\/renewable-service\/cable-engineering\/\">cable pull-in<\/a>. In-depth stability analysis requires consideration of a range of potentially contributing factors.
