The resulting fire raged briefly before being extinguished, leaving a dead ship, listing 17\u00b0. The crew abandoned ship. The aft part of the main deck was torn open and left hanging over the port and starboard sides. The authorities and terminal operators required the casualty be removed as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<h1>LOC\u2019s Scope of Work<\/h1>\n<p>LOC were instructed by the Owners P&amp;I Club to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monitor the preparations to remove the casualty,<\/li>\n<li>Issue tow approval,<\/li>\n<li>Oversee and monitor cargo removal,<\/li>\n<li>Assist in the <a href=\"https:\/\/loc-group.com\/services\/loss-management\/claims-disputes-litigations\/marine-accident-investigation\/\">investigation<\/a> into the cause of the explosion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Risks<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>Highly explosive exposed cargo remnants,<\/li>\n<li>Dead ship with torn main deck impairing structural strength,<\/li>\n<li>Cargo solidifies without heating.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>The Operations<\/h1>\n<p>The casualty was prepared for a 7-day tow to a repair yard in Batam, which included full assessments of its structural strength by LOC. It safely arrived and then underwent an extensive <a href=\"https:\/\/loc-group.com\/services\/loss-management\/marine-casualties\/cargo\/\">cargo removal operation<\/a> which required the manual scraping of solidified cargo.
