It involved  pipelay activities at a maximum water depth of approximately 70 m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The TANAP pipeline was built to transport gas from Azerbaijan&#8217;s Shah Deniz II field in the Caspian Sea to Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scope-of-work\">Scope of Work <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>AqualisBraemar LOC worked on the project between 2016 and 2018 providing MWS services to review and approve marine operations relating to the offshore pipelay activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The scope included: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Suitability surveys of the proposed support and construction fleet, including line pipe cargo barges, pipelay barges, dredgers, trenching vessels, diving vessels, rock dumpers, tugs and barges<\/li><li>Review and approval of project documentation including calculations and analysis, drawings, procedures, certificates, manuals and relevant reports<\/li><li>Onsite attendance to witness and approve warranted marine operations<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-key-features\">Key Features<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Carried out suitability surveys of 41 vessels<\/li><li>Received and reviewed over 200 project documents <\/li><li>Attended at marine operations across multiple global locations: Norway, Greece, Italy, Sea of Marmara, Dardanelles Strait Turkey<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-unique-elements\">Unique Elements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Midstream-pipelay-image-large-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16463\" width=\"306\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Midstream-pipelay-image-large-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Midstream-pipelay-image-large-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Midstream-pipelay-image-large-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Midstream-pipelay-image-large-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Midstream-pipelay-image-large-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 306px) 100vw, 306px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The location for the subsea pipeline presented unique challenges. These included that the pipelines and cables run across the Canakkale Strait, which is a main shipping route linking the Aegean Sea (Mediterranean) with the Sea of Marmara to the Black Sea. 2010 data shows that there were 50,000 vessels, including 5,500 oil tankers, passing through the straits annually. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to this, landfalls for the offshore section of the pipeline are located in areas of high marine traffic. This meant, there was a need to synchronise installation operations with marine traffic through navigational risk analysis work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The strait is also sinuous, varying in width with strong complex currents.
