Project introduction:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A drilling platform located in the United Kingdom Continental Shelf offshore Aberdeen is due to be decommissioned in the next 5-10 years and therefore required reactivation of the on-board drilling package to safely \u201cplug and abandon\u201d (P&A) the production wells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before inspection, the drilling package was last operational in 2022, having been through a major reactivation project and in the interim period had been kept in a \u201cwarm stacked\u201d state by a maintenance crew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABL had previously performed a similar project for the client on another of their installations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Our scope of work<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The work scope was conducted according to our 5 step process:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. IDENTIFY equipment and systems to be audited, and the geographical location of operations<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. REVIEW documentation for equipment and systems to check regulatory compliance<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. INSPECT equipment and systems to check regulatory compliance<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. FUNCTION test equipment to verify operability<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. REPORT upon the findings from the previous steps<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Phase 1 \u2013 Desktop documentation review<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Desktop documentation review at the drilling contractor offices. A documentation request was issued in advance so that the appropriate documents could be gathered ahead of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Phase 2 \u2013 Offshore Inspection and function test of drilling package equipment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Mobilisation offshore to the platform of a multidisciplined team of Inspection Engineers (Mechanical, Electrical, and Well Control Equipment).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The inspection covered the following areas: Derrick and associated equipment, drilling equipment, drilling control systems, pipe handling equipment, skidding system, high pressure and low pressure mud system, well control equipment and control systems, BOP handling cranes, drilling electrical distribution.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
